While their lives have changed and their schedules are more packed, they always pick up where they left off.
“I guess the cool thing about catching up with Andy is when we grab a beer, or cook up a meal, or go fishing, I feel like the same person I was when I first met him. All those stresses and anxieties just fall away, it all just disappears, and it goes back to the pure friendship that we’ve got,” Ben says.
And if they’re shooting a show, Andy says they still request a double room.
“We put some music on, we get a bottle of wine and some cheese. And we stay up until 3am like old times and just chat some s**t. We drift off into stories,” Andy says.
It’s rare, Ben says, that men are fortunate enough to find a friendship which extends beyond talking about footy.
“In the male world, it’s really hard to find that friendship where I know I could really rely on him,” he says. “My father got really sick about five months ago, and he was a person I would ring whenever I felt like I needed a shoulder to cry on. He was the only person in my world that knew I was struggling with that at that point in time.”
Andy says his life would have been very different if it wasn’t for his friendship with Ben.
“This is going to sound super stupid, but honestly his friendship is what has made me today,” he says. “I’m part of an amazing restaurant group and it all wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for my friendship with Benny. It has been a pretty hectic time, and I do look back to where it all first began, and it’s pretty cool to see Benny has been by my side from the beginning.”
